God Or gods The Hebrew word used here (Elohim) is plural and can mean either God or gods. From a translation point of view, עֵ֥ץ is masculine singular, so מִכֹּ֖ל עֵ֥ץ can only be "every tree", not "all trees". The serpent told Eve that she would become like God in some manner if she ate from the forbidden tree. Why did God ask Adam where they were & what they had done since he already knew what had transpired in the garden? But in universal propositions (in English at least) this is not done.
